| A Carat is a measurement of
weight, which also indicates size. The
Weight of a diamond is expressed in metric carats. One metric carat equals 0.200
grams (200 milligrams or 1/5 gram). One carat is divided into 100 equal units called
"points". According to U.S. Federal Trade Commission rulings, all weight
representations shall be subject to a 1/200th of a carat (one-half 'point') tolerance.
Weight is usually written as a decimal fraction (e.g.
0.25 carat). Often, the approximate weight of a diamond is described in fractions.
